NEWMOA is pleased to welcome Aseem Kumar as a new member of NEWMOA鈥檚 Board of Directors. Aseem brings more than 30 years of engineering experience with the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation (NYSDEC), where he has held roles across the Division of Air Resources, the Division of Water, and currently the Division of Materials Management. He now serves as Section Supervisor for Hazardous 91直播 Compliance and Technical Determination, providing leadership and technical expertise on complex regulatory issues.
In addition to his work at NYSDEC, Aseem has contributed to statewide environmental initiatives through his service on the New York Department of Agriculture State Committee and as an active member of the New York State Soil and Water Conservation Committee.
Aseem earned a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering in India, where he was born, and began his career with a Fortune 500 company before relocating to the United States. He continued his education with additional coursework in Environmental and Chemical Engineering at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute.
NEWMOA is excited to welcome Aseem鈥檚 extensive experience, technical knowledge, and commitment to environmental protection to the Board.
NEWMOA also welcomes Kelly Owens as a new member of NEWMOA鈥檚 Board of Directors. Kelly brings more than 33 years of experience working at the Rhode Island Department of Environmental Management (RIDEM), where she has focused her career on site cleanup, brownfields, and land revitalization. Kelly is already well known to NEWMOA, having served as a program contact on numerous workgroups over the years, including the 91直播 Site Cleanup Steering Committee, the Brownfields Summit Planning Committee, and the Community鈥慦ide Assessment Grant for States and Tribes (CWAGST). While she will be delegating some committee responsibilities in the coming months, she remains closely engaged in NEWMOA鈥檚 work鈥攑articularly the upcoming Brownfields Summit in Newport, Rhode Island, and training opportunities that support her staff. Kelly holds a B.S. in Civil and Environmental Engineering from Cornell University and an MBA from the University of Rhode Island. She joined RIDEM in 1992 and has spent her entire career in the Site Remediation and Brownfields programs. In 2024, she was promoted to Deputy Administrator and now serves in DEM鈥檚 Office of Land Revitalization and Sustainable Materials Management.
