Gov. Andy Beshear announced the awarding of $6 million in grants for projects aimed at reducing solid waste in landfills, encouraging recycling and improving the management of hazardous household waste. 聽The funding, which comes from聽state dollars supported through the Kentucky Pride Fund, will be聽provided聽to municipalities,聽universities聽and fiscal courts for 68 projects across the state.

鈥淔or years, this initiative has聽helped聽reduce聽the amount of waste聽piling up in our landfills,鈥 Beshear said. 鈥淏y continuing to take proactive steps, we are making sure we are聽keeping Kentucky聽safe and clean for聽our kids and grandkids.鈥

There were 36 recycling grants totaling about $4.4 million, 29 household hazardous waste grants totaling approximately $1 million and 3 composting grants totaling just over $570,000. These grants require a 25 percent local match in the form of cash or 鈥渋n kind鈥 labor, educational聽activities聽or advertising to promote the program from those receiving the awards.
